"Catalyst empowered us to launch our retrofit service for homeowners, landlords, brokers, and lenders in the UK quickly and easily.”

Colin Calder, CEO, Digital Buildings Ltd.

The company: Retrogreen

Retrogreen specializes in creating better homes by designing and implementing energy-efficient and low-carbon retrofits at affordable prices across the UK, serving the rapidly growing market for renewable energy solutions. Retrogeen helps a homeowner increase the value of their property and reduce operating costs by creating a digital twin that considers different retrofit measures, financial and disruption constraints, and user-defined preferences.

The challenge

Retrogreen is on a mission to help users develop their optimal retrofit plan using AI and advanced modeling software to find the right balance between affordability, disruption, cost of building, efficiency improvements, and potential increase in property value. As a pioneer in renewable energy solutions in the B2C realm, they faced challenges integrating and scaling their B2C ecosystem with their B2B apps hosted in the Zoho ecosystem. Being a customer-obsessed company, their main motto is to provide a seamless experience for their users with a single but secure point of authentication. The team sought a solution to enable homeowners to log into the Home Retrofit app and transform their homes into energy-efficient buildings.

The solution: Catalyst helps build and host the Retrogreen user applications

Enter Catalyst: A game-changer in Retrogreen's journey towards efficiency and user satisfaction. Catalyst emerged as the missing piece of the puzzle, offering the precise solution the Retrogreen team had been seeking. Thanks to Retrogreen and Catalyst's advanced capabilities, homeowners can now obtain a digital replica of any property in the UK by simply entering the postal address in less than five seconds. That is just the start of the customer journey.

Retrogreen has integrated a complete workflow management and booking system into its consumer and trade-facing services. They use various Zoho products to manage customer consultations, onsite assessments, bid management, supplier selection, installation, and post-installation evaluations. Since the portal handles sensitive data about a user's home, it was essential to ensure a safe and secure platform. Building authentication from scratch was ruled out based on cost and the go-to-market time of the new service proposition.

Retrogreen enlisted KumoFlow, a Catalyst partner, to help develop the end-user application for their customers. The application that Retrogreen's customers interact with was custom-built by KumoFlow from the ground up on Catalyst. KumoFlow also developed the backend workflow management system using Zoho CRM and Zoho Bookings. The custom app allows users to log in to the portal and authenticate their requests. It also seamlessly integrates Catalyst and CRM to ensure data uniformity across the B2C and B2B apps. Catalyst bridged the gap to connect the user's frontend to the Zoho services on the backend, empowering the team to authenticate user requests and transform them before routing service requests to multiple other backend services.

Catalyst natively supports apps built on React, Angular, HTML, and CSS and provides authentication layers. When users log in to the Retrogreen portal, their requests are authenticated, and subsequent requests are relayed to the appropriate backend apps. KumoFlow used Catalyst to empower Retrogreen to move forward and achieve their business needs quickly.

Ensuring Data Security and User Trust with Catalyst's Authentication Measures

Retrogreen's success story with Catalyst serves as a testament to the power of innovation and strategic partnership. Catalyst's robust authentication measures ensured the safety of users' sensitive data, instilling trust and confidence in Retrogreen's offerings. By embracing Catalyst, Retrogreen not only overcame its technical challenges but also elevated its customer experience to new heights.

Simplifying Complex Service Platforms with Catalyst

The team cites Catalyst's simplicity and scalability as two of the primary reasons that helped the company build and scale a complex service platform designed to manage many different user types, like homeowners, lenders, brokers, assessors, installers, and similar users. Retrogreen was particularly impressed by Catalyst's remarkably low learning curve and speed of implementation. Moreover, the high levels of abstraction provided by Catalyst proved invaluable; it enabled the seamless integration of Catalyst to sit effectively between the Retrogreen user portal and the B2B Zoho apps in the backend.

Achieving a Unified Customer Experience through Catalyst Integration

By leveraging Catalyst's capabilities, Retrogreen could bridge the gap between its various backend systems and provide users with a unified, hassle-free experience. Retrogreen's collaboration with Catalyst has forged a path towards a greener, more sustainable future–one energy-efficient building at a time.
